Brittany

Guess who turns twelve today?! Yep, Miss Brittany!

Love this picture, Brittany and a book. That is our girl. So very smart, and funny. Our little perfectionist who always gets great results for her efforts. She is super responsible and always looks out for her brothers, whether they like it or not!

She is doing really well with her violin. There isn't really any new talent or interest Brittany isn't willing to tackle!

Yep, that is our girl. So glad she is ours!

Scout Camp

Yesterday was Scout Camp. It would be accurate to say that I have been pretty stressed about this. Somehow I ended up in charge of this day. Would there be enough drivers, do we have all the forms, what to do with Josh etc. But it all worked out, the drivers all showed, we all got there safely and a great day was had by all. The boys loved it and I have to admit to enjoying myself, how can you not when the boys are having such fun?!

Birthday Boy

Last week was Josh's birthday and I do mean the whole week. We started with a party in the park with our lunch friends. Then the party at home with our little family. Followed by a birthday viewing of the new Cars movie, which we loved. Ending with our annual family Meatfest where even more presents were received. My little boy is five. Sigh. It is going so fast. Good thing Josh is just more fun with each passing year. All week he has been telling us how he can do this or that now because he is five. Happy Birthday my little Chicken!

Moustache Anyone?

For Father's Day I had an idea for a new family photo. It did not involve coordinating outfits, having our hair done or hiring a photographer. It did involve about 10 felt moustaches crafted by me. I am in love with how it turned out. My dad seemed to like it too. But now these moustaches have lost their purpose in life. They wish they could be useful again. So I have decided to give them away. Assuming there is someone out there equally nutty as me and my family. Leave me a comment if you would like some moustaches to play with. I will draw a name on Sunday and pop them in the mail Tuesday.

It Was A Good, Good Day

Yep, it was a great day at Cherry Hill. Low enough temperatures to keep most of the crowds away.

So my kids could do this over, and over, and over again. Twenty-four times for Brittany Matthew was a "tank" hauling the smaller kids around.

Yep, a perfect Summer Day!

Chalk Artists

We went to the chalk festival in Salt Lake today. It was the first time we have gone that it hasn't been raining, which is a factor if you are trying to create art with chalk. It was so fun and of course the kids got all inspired and hit the driveway as soon as we got home to try out their skills.

First up was Donald Duck

I am willing to go buy more chalk as soon as they run out if it will buy me more afternoons of them working together relatively peacefully for an afternoon. There was a wading pool in action this afternoon, which is why everyone is in a swim suit.

Of course Donald needed his girlfriend Daisy, Brittany's favorite.

You can't have those two without Mickey, Minne never made it though.

This one is harder t see, it is the stars of Tangled. Matthew is disgusted that the age requirement to participate in the Salt Lake Chalk festival is twelve. I think they could definitely compete!

Summer Ideas

I am working on a list of things for to do during the Summer when we are not lazying away the day at Cherry Hill. Thought I would share.

1. Visit Michaels Craft Store and let each kid pick out a project. They had lots of little wood kits under three dollars, a lot for just a dollar.

2. Visit BYU for one of our field trips. William and I are both alumni and yet our kids are completely unfamiliar with the school.

3. Go to the thrift store and let each kid spend three dollars anyway they want.

4. Have art day and paint canvases-the canvas covered cardboard ones are really cheap at Wal-mart.

5. Once at our house in California I let the kids fish in the backyard. Posted it here. I am considering doing it again.
6. I think we will do hot rocks again.

7. We will definitely be having an art day with my nieces.

8. This marble launcher looks fun.

9. Tye-died cupcakes. Or maybe just a cupcake making day. The rainbow cupcakes were fun too.

10. This is the Place Heritage Park.

11. I signed up for the free bowling at Orchard Lanes here.

12. Trying to decide if I am brave enough to try these Marshmallow guns here.

What are you doing for fun this Summer?

Our Showstopper

Brittany has been in a performance group this year instead of ballet. I have to admit that it is recital week this week for our ballet school and I really was missing it. But last night was the performance for Showstoppers and it was so fun. My mom commented afterward that when Brittany was dancing ballet or when she is playing the violin she looks so intense and serious. When she is doing a Showstoppers performance she just looks like she is having a blast. She really does. Here is a little clip of my favorite number they did. The theme was Disney Nights and they did the musical numbers from Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Mulan. Brittany comes in at about 1:26, she is easier to spot with the black glasses. Forgive my shaking photography, Josh was on my lap. So proud of you Bug!

Father's Day ideas

Do you realize that Father's day is only a week away? So I have been looking at some ideas for the kids to help with this next week. This is what I have come up with so far. If you are a dad in our family look away! Loving these sculpey clay pens here. from Little Birdie Secrets
This idea is simple but cute. herefrom Smile Monsters
I am thinking these cupcakes might be fun. Here. at nothing but country

There are some really cute printables on this blog here. at Splendid Designs.
Martha Stewart always has good ideas, I am liking this idea for notepads decorated by little ones. Here

Now we will see if I get any of these done with the kids!

Summer Project

It is that time of year when I know we are all looking for good projects with the kids. We did this one with my scouts yesterday and I think it was a big success. Which says a lot considering eight eight year old boys were involved. The tips I learned included putting a piece of wax paper inside the shirt so the bleach doesn't go all the way through. Also to do the initial drawing with chalk. Then they used the Clorox bleach pen to go over the chalk drawings. It took about 15-20 minutes of sitting for the bleach to work. Then I quickly rinsed off the bleach gel. I took them home and washed them. They turned out really cool!

Literary Help

We need some help from my book-loving friends, and I know I have a lot of them. Brittany is on a biography/autobiography kick and we need suggestions. Anyone have a favorite? She is okay with adult fare-assuming the subject didn't lead too risque a life. Any suggestions would be appreciated, she has read these two lately which I have read and liked but now my well of suggestions has run dry. Help!

Paper Temple

My niece was baptised yesterday so I thought I would try a little different gift. I saw this on Studio 5 a few weeks ago and put my own spin on it. It is made from a dictionary page which I traced a temple shape onto and then cut out. I also chalked the edges to make it stand out more.

The End

Well it is over. The whole school year, sixth grade, and elementary school. They had a really nice little graduation ceremony. Brittany did a great job reading a poem.

Brittany with her darling, excellent and wonderful teacher Mrs. Payne. We are going to miss her so much!

I can't believe how time has flown. This was Brittany on her first day of kindergarten. Look how excited she is!

And this was the last day of sixth grade. Sniff, sniff. Time goes tooooo fast!

Little Fruit Pizzas

I brought the dessert to Women's Shelter lunch last week. I liked how it turned out so I thought I would add it to my recipes here. I just used a sugar cookie recipe that was for drop cookies. I made them slightly larger than usual. Then I made a frosting from softened cream cheese, a little whipping cream and about 1 cup of powdered sugar. Then I arranged cut fruit on top. I drizzled apricot jam that I had thinned on top of the fruit. They were fun, light and Springy.

More End of the Year Business

Brittany had a long anticipated recital last weekend. She was more nervous than she usually gets in front of people. I think it was because this was so different than what she usually does. That is her cute teacher Kaitlin behind her on the piano. Or her hired big sister as I like to refer to her. She is a darling girl who used to be our babysitter and now teaches Brittany (and provides an awesome example of great teen-agerness at no extra charge). They were really great, when it was all over I think it was good for Brittany to prove to herself that she could do this hard thing, and she did it well. Brittany posted video on her blog here.

Josh on the other had was really not nervous about his Preschool graduation. He was pumped! This is his amazing teacher Miss Tammy who also taught Matthew. I can't believe this was my last preschool graduation. Miss Tammy has done a great job of preparing my boys. We are really going to miss her.
