The Road

This was this month's book club choice for The Book Blogging Babes. I have to admit right up front that this book was not for the faint of heart and I was faint of heart. I stuck with it for about 60 pages and then gave myself permission to quit. It took me to places I just didn't want to go. Because it was so well written I was truly transported to the author's world. Problem was I don't want to hang out in a Post Apocalyptic world. I don't think I am a Pollyanna, lots of books I read take me to uncomfortable places but this one, probably because it was so well done, was just too disturbing. If you want to read some great discussion about this book go over here. These girls were much more open-minded and insightful than I.

I think it's perfectly OK to quit a book you don't enjoy. Too many books, too little time to slog through one you don't want to slog through. I'm glad you posted a review, though...keep BBB alive! :)

I added your review to the bottom of my review with all the others.

Thanks for trying. :>

I tried to read The Road this summer. I had too many other things going on to ever get into it. I think I made it about 30 pages and returned it.

You are moving back!!!???????? YIPPPPEEEEEE!!!!! I know I'm a bit slow on the blog reading and keeping current, but I'm so happy to catch that great bit of news! 3rd week in October??? We have a party to plan? When can you be there? Does this mean I get to see your cute Halloween costumes in person???? AWESOME!

oh, ps.....The Road WAS WAY too depressing. I will forever be disturbed by that book.

Yes several years ago I dived into this book since my avid reading uncle suggested it. And boy was it heavey. I can see how it could be too much!

Good for you Michelle! I say life has enough sad things these days. You don't need to include it in your lovely, special, only you, reading time. I used to have a "If you start it, you have to finish it policy " but have abandoned it of late.
"Read" good thoughts!

P.S. I cracked up at your comment on my blog...it's nice to hear from another neurotic crafter:)

I'm with you. Have had to stop reading a few books lately. I don't have time to read something that I don't LOVE. (Too many of YOU to read!)

Hey Michelle,
I received my swap package yesterday and thank you!! The little witchie is so cute. My daughter loves her too!!
I am not trying to be a slacker but my husband is shipping your package from his work. Every time I go to the post office I walk right back out with my package-those people are so rude and unhelpful. So I am sorry for the delay, but I am confident that you will love it!!

This was a very difficult book. I was thankful to E for writing to me and explaining a few good points about it. I think I will post my review soon too. I got about as far as you I think and had to quit.
